2019.05.12 2019 Fascination of Plants Day - Nankai University
The "2019 Fascination of Plants Day-Nankai University" with a theme "Mystery Behind Colorful Plants" was successfully hosted by us with the support from the Chinese Society for Plant Biology (CSPB) on 12th May.
Three activities were involved to help the public get closer to the plant world. Firstly, we showed multiple plant varieties grown in hydroponic and soil to help everyone to taste the diversity of plants. And then, volunteers from the lab led children and their parents to extract the heredity material DNA from a strawberry.
With the help of the volunteers (Yuqing in the picture), our enthusiastic young fellows participated in extracting strawberry DNA with their own hands. In the end, plant seeds were given to participants with homework of growing them and witnessing their whole life cycle.
