After his Ph.D. training at The University of Western Australia, Lei worked with Professor Harvey Millar at ARC CoE in Plant Energy Biology as a Research Associate since 2012. Lei was appointed Professor at Nankai University in 2018. His study focuses on the investigation of mitochondrial and plastidial protein homeostasis and turnover. His research interests involve the investigation of organellar protein homeostasis under abiotic stresses (high light and Pi starvation) and in the degradation of deficient mutants (proteases and autophagy-related).
